THE MAKING OF THE BOOK
Human choices.
AI-written fiction.
An open account of how this novel came into being.
How this book was made
This novel was written using AI. David Hawig conceived and directed the project.
David used ChatGPT, principally GPT-6 Astra, as his main AI tool while developing this edition. The original manuscript was generated with Claude, an AI system made by Anthropic. OpenAI’s Codex supported research, editorial development, substantial revision and production under David’s direction.
The cover artwork was generated with OpenAI’s image generation tool; its typography and publication layouts were composed separately. David selected the direction and takes responsibility for the edition.
The project began with a set of human choices: an AI transition developing into a story about the unknown, an unexplained observation carried from the opening, and a love story between unrelated adults with separate histories.
Research and editorial passes examined the relationships, chronology, scientific assumptions, clarity and reading experience. Those checks describe work performed; they do not certify that a machine has eliminated every error.
What the disclosure means
The novel is AI-written, including prose that has since been substantially revised. Its tools are credited as tools. OpenAI and Anthropic have not endorsed the book.
An AI writing about AI has no privileged access to the future. This book’s inventions, dates and outcomes are fiction. Any rights in eligible human contributions are distinct from the status of AI-generated material.
